I've been poor this year at updating

Whilst my Autograph Geek blog sometimes get multiple updates in the same days I've neglected my poor Film Geek blog, I really don't mean to, anyway here I'm writing a quick catch up of films I've seen recently, some rewatches, some first timers, with possibly only a couple of lines dedicated to some films (probably part 1 of I don't know how many)...

The Dark Knight (2008): I'm not sure if I'm gonna go hyperbole but I want to call this the best superhero comic book movie ever made, I originally saw this back on original cinema release and was totally blown away and most of the applause should go to Heath Ledger's blistering performance as The Joker, the movie completely belongs to him, but you honestly can't fail to ignore performaners like Gary Oldman or Michael Caine who are class too, there are also some amazing set pieces contained within. Excellent *****

No Country for Old Men (2007): Speaking of amazing performances Javier Bardem is brilliant in this insant Coen Brothers classic. Never mind that the plot at it's most basic is somewhat unoriginal, it's the Coen's they do it with class and style. The scene with Bardem in the gas station is one of my favourite scenes of the last few years. Again excellent *****

And finally for this part Cool World (1992): I've always thought Ralph Bakshi films have many great moments but you always feel ultimately underwhelmed by the entire article, Cool World is especially no different. Think Roger Rabbit more aimed at adults and it's often an uneasy mix of some great moments that wouldn't be out of place in a Tex Avery cartoon and scenes like that of human and cartoon character having sex. Brad Pitt stars (third billed) just before his career started to take off strongly. I didn't hate it but was underwhelmed **1/2
